The Modern Supernatural-Worldview Revival
A late-20th and 21st-century return to reading Genesis 6 through its ancient Near Eastern context — and the popular culture that grew around it.
INTERPRETATIONMODERN CLAIM
The scholarly strand
Academic work on the divine council, the ancient Near Eastern background of the Hebrew Bible, and Second Temple literature has restored the heavenly-beings reading to serious discussion within biblical studies.
The popular strand
Alongside it, a large media ecosystem of books, broadcasts and videos advances hybrid-bloodline, hidden-elite and end-times-return theories. These frequently borrow the scholarly strand's credibility while making claims it does not make.
Handling rule
Both strands are treated here as interpretation. A modern author, however persuasive, is a reader of the evidence and not the evidence.
