Background

[HISTORICAL]Daniel 3 supplies the closest structural precedent: a state-erected image, a public signal, compulsory worship, and a capital penalty for refusal.
[HISTORICAL]Statues associated with imperial cult worship were a documented feature of civic life in first-century Asia Minor; ancient sources also describe temple mechanisms designed to make statues appear to act.

What stands out
