Claims Board — What the Record Does Not Support
Four claims circulate constantly in calendar discussions. Each is stated here as it is usually made, and then measured against the documents in this folder set.
'The reform stole ten days from people's lives'
Dates were renumbered; time was not removed. There were riot legends about this in several countries, and modern historians treat the 'give us our eleven days' agitation as considerably exaggerated. Nobody's lifespan changed.
'The change broke the seven-day week and moved the Sabbath'
Not supported. The reform explicitly preserved the weekday cycle: Thursday 4 October was followed by Friday 15 October. Whatever one holds about which day should be kept, the 1582 reform is not the cause.
'Daniel 7:25 predicts the Gregorian reform'
An interpretation, not a documented finding. The text speaks of a power that thinks to change times and laws; applying it to a specific sixteenth-century astronomical correction is a reading that the text neither names nor requires. Filed as interpretation, and contested even as that.
'The Orthodox reject modern astronomy'
Contradicted by the record. The 1923 Congress adopted a rule more accurate than the Gregorian one. The dispute was about ecclesial authority, conciliarity, continuity and Paschal unity — as the Eastern response folder documents.
